Kentucky has rebounded from a 2-3 start to run its record to 4-3 with victories over Auburn and Louisiana-Monroe. If the Cats can beat Mississippi State and then Eastern Kentucky, that would make UK bowl eligible with three games — Vanderbilt, Georgia and Tennessee — still remaining.

"We talk about needing every win we can get. Louisiana-Monroe was a pretty good game considering we needed a win. We did a lot of good things, but there were some negative things we have to clean up and check out," Maxwell said. "We kind of got our season off to a bad start. They were good teams we played, but there were things we could have done to win and we put ourselves in a bind by not winning.

"Now Mississippi State is a huge game and can change our season. I kind of feel they are team like us. They have been big underdogs in most games and they might not be having a great season, but their players are still good and they can win at any time. They played Florida pretty good last week, so that let's you know what they are capable of. But if we can win and get to 5-3, it will be a great feeling and close to being to a bowl game. But we have to take care of business. Anthony Dixon is a really good running back for them and they do things we have to stop becasue we know anything can happen in any game."
