McGinnis named SEC Male Swimmer of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Senior Eric McGinnis was tabbed the Southeastern Conference Male Swimmer of the Week it was announced by the league office Tuesday. This is the first such honor of the senior from Raleigh, N.C.'s career, and the first recognition for the Wildcats this season.

McGinnis has been spectacular for the Wildcats thus far and especially this weekend. He captured victories in the 50-freestyle in both dual meets this weekend for UK. His 20.02 time in his win against Virginia was the fastest of the season. But, he would go on to top that feat with a 19.98 leadoff split in UK's win in the 200-free relay to finish the meet.

That 19.98 mark ranks first in the SEC, but even more impressively it is currently the top time in the nation. The time meets the NCAA ‘B' provisional mark to qualifying for the national championship meet. Additionally, McGinnis helped the 200-free relay squad accomplish an NCAA qualifying mark as well – and that relay is the top time in the league as well.

McGinnis and the Wildcats return to action on Nov. 19th. UK will compete in the Tennessee Invitational for the second consecutive season. The championship-like meet will cover three days hosted in Knoxville.
