The initial story of the game was who was going to start at quarterback for the Wildcats. Morgan Newton made the start with Hartline coming in as relief.

But the story of the afternoon was the play of the Wildcats dynamic duo, Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke.

Randall Cobb started the festivities with a 21 yard touchdown run. Lonas Seiber also knocked in a 36 yard field goal for the Cats.

Turnovers kept Vanderbilt alive early as they picked off both Morgan Newton and Mike Hartline, setting up another field goal and a touchdown.

Vanderbilt took a 13-10 lead into halftime where Kentucky. The Wildcats didn't look motivated after trailing late in the 2nd quarter, but things changed in the second half.

The Wildcats marched the ball down the field to start the second half, giving the Cats a 17-13 lead. Cobb finished off the drive with a three yard touchdown run.

The Wildcats forced several three-and-outs as both teams traded punts back and forth. Finally the Wildcats closed the door after Morgan Newton completed a 28 yard pass to LaRod King to make it first and goal. Derrick Locke took a hand-off and carried it in from 14 yards out for a touchdown, making the score 24-13.

Randall Cobb finished the game with 13 carried for 96 yards, two catches for three yards, four punt returns for 14 yards and 2 kickoff returns for 51 yards.

Derrick Locke finished the game with 23 carries for 136 yards, two catches for 6 yards and one kickoff return for 27 yards.

The Wildcats out-gained Vanderbilt 398 to 209 in total yardage.

Wildcats will return to action against the Georgia Bulldogs next weekend in Athens.
