Luke Ridley has known Poole since late in the summer when Poole transferred to Providence for his senior season. "I think he is a great player and he's definitely earned every right to be considered among the nation's top 100 players," the high school freshman said. "Not only can he drive, but he can pull up and score or rise up and dunk over you. If he gets wide open one on one, he just throws it down with power. He goes hard. He's very, very explosive.
Poole has impressed Luke Ridley with his defense, too.
"He is a tenacious defense. His tenacity is crazy. When he gets down to guard, there is no getting by him. It did surprise me a little bit how hard he plays on defense. He gets after it more than I expected someone that good would. He has that extra gear almost that he can kick it into when he has to and he'll do that on defense as well as offense," Luke Ridley said.
Away from basketball, Luke Ridley says Poole is fun to be around and have as a teammate. "He can cut up with the guys. He is social. He just works hard on the court, but away from the court he is a different guy," Luke Ridley said. "I knew his visit to Kentucky went well and I think he understands and appreciates that basketball is life in Kentucky. That definitely did appeal to him."
Stroud thinks Poole's play will appeal to UK fans, too. He's a consensus top 50 player, yet Stroud guesses he's still better than most Kentucky fans realize. "The game is very easy to him. You will see there is not a lot of stress in his actions. He flows with the game very easily," Stroud said. "If you did not know better, you might think he was not trying that hard. But he is so fluid and athletic. He can take over a game at any time and not many players can do that."
Poole knows Kentucky had the nation's top recruiting class this year. However, he's not worried about who Calipari will add to his recruiting class. "Whatever coach Cal has in mind and whoever he brings in will be fine with me," Poole said. "I can't say I will really be able to help any other players make their decision. It's their decision to make, not mine. If recruits come, they come. If not, they just don't. But I think coach Cal will bring in plenty of player. That won't be a problem."
Just like Luke Ridley doesn't think it will be a problem for UK fans to embrace Poole.
"Not only will he be good, but he'll work hard in the classroom. He'll be a perfect fit for the offense coach Calipari wants to run," Luke Ridley said. "I think Stacey is a major pickup for John Calipari and everybody will eventually see that. Kentucky is getting a great player and I can't wait to watch him play for the Cats."
