Cats edge Bulldogs 76-68 to go 16-0

Welcome to conference play young Wildcats, where nothing comes easy. John Calipari's youthful squad got off to a quick ten-point lead, but saw that disappear and became engaged in a nip and tuck affair before pulling out a tough 76-68 win over the tough Georgia Bulldogs.

After pulling out to an early lead that was as high as ten points the Georgia Bulldogs slowly cut into the Kentucky lead until they caught the Wildcats midway through the first stanza.

From that point forward the half was a nip and tuck affair, with Georgia taking a one-point lead to the intermission.

The second half brought more of the same type of game as both teams played stingy defense, Kentucky played man while Mark Fox had his Bulldogs playing zone.

In the end Kentucky's defense was the toughest. When Georgia's Trey Thompkins pulled the Dawgs to within a single point at 63-62 with more than six minutes remaining this one looked like it would continue to be a game of lead exchanges. That was not to be, as Georgia did not score another field goal.

Kentucky extended its lead behind thirteen points by DeMarcus Cousins over the remainder of the game. Those thirteen points were the final thirteen points scored by the Wildcats. Cousins scored from the field and at the charity stripe. Cousins sealed the game with his field goal with 36 seconds remaining. In addition to his offense Cousins was seemingly all over the floor on defense, tipping the ball and harassing Georgia's offense.

Kentucky was led in scoring by John Wall and Patrick Patterson with 17 points each. Cousins was right behind the duo with 16 of his own. Eric Bledsoe added 12 for the Wildcats.

DeAndre Liggins came up big for the Wildcats playing fourteen minutes and applying tough defense on the Bulldogs, coming up with three steals and scoring six points for the Cats.

Georgia was led in scoring by Travis Leslie's 20 points, Thompkins added 17 points and pulled down a game high thirteen rebounds. Ricky McPhee added 13 for the Dawgs, hitting 3-8 from behind the arc.
