So what does that do to their focus for the rest of this season at Kentucky? Do they think ahead or what?
Those are hard questions to answer, but I truly think a lot depends on the coach. John Calipari's track record shows he can handle these type of things and I will trust he will do the same here very well. I would think he has already addressed the NBA talk to a certain extent and he will continue to give guys his blessing to go to the NBA provided they have played hard here and left it all on the floor like these guys have so far.
With the freshmen, you never know what could happen. With Patrick, he's been through so many wars that I don't think you have to worry about him a whole lot. But freshmen are freshmen. You don't know what influences other than coach Calipari could be pulling at them.
It's hard to ignore the future riches they will have. It's on ESPN SportsCenter. It's on Facebook. Everybody is talking about it. It has to be in the back of their mind, but do they spend a lot of time thinking about it? I think they wouldn't be human if they didn't think about them some. But you don't want to think too much. As long as you continue to play and deliver on the court, being drafted is going to take care of itself.
From what I can tell, these guys are all ranked very high. They should all feel pretty good about where they are and what they have done. They shouldn't worry about the future because it is going to work out for all of them.
But in the back of their minds, they probably are thinking about it. I just hope it works out best for them and Kentucky.
