Matthew Mitchell's young ladies have accomplished quite a bit this season and have managed to finished ranked in the top twenty following a successful SEC regular season. Adding to that success are the top three SEC post-season awards being handed out to Kentucky.
Head coach Matthew Mitchell received the SEC Coach of the Year Award this year, following a 23-6 season and a second place finish (11-5) in the SEC. Last season Mitchell's Cats were 16-16 with a 5-9 record in conference. In preseason this year, the team was picked to finish 11 out of 12 schools in the conference.
Freshman guard A'dia Mathies was named SEC Freshman of the Year after averaging 12.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest. Mathies was also named 2nd team all conference after her performance as well, only one of two freshmen named all-conference this year.
Finally, junior Victoria Dunlap, who had one of the best individual seasons in UK history, was named SEC Player of the Year and first team All-SEC. Dunlap averaged 17.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. She also had 1.9 blocks per game and made 49 percent of her shots. She was rated in the top ten of seven difference categories. Dunlap was also a member of the all-defensive team in the SEC as well.
