Cal thinks NCAA field includes 5 from SEC

Calipari: "Mississippi State's last loss at home hurt. I think if they get in (the NCAA), they will win a couple of games and maybe more. They block shots, are a great defensive team and can really shoot the ball. In the NCAA, that is things that get you over."

Question: How many SEC teams should be in the NCAA field?

Calipari: "I think we will have five. Mississippi State and Florida have got to win one (game in the SEC Tournament). If they do, both are in. If they win two, all of a sudden it is easier for them. The great news is I think we will have teams advance. I think this league is good league. On the road it is ridiculous. It is hard to win games in this league.

Question: How do you explain the top four teams in the SEC East — Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Florida — going 24-0 versus the SEC West this year?

Calipari: Because our side of the league was a little bit better, but other times the West has been better. That's why Florida should be in (the NCAA). Let me tell you who is good. Georgia and South Carolina, who beat us. We are all on the same side beating the crap out of each other."

Question: How do you approach the SEC Tournament with a 29-2 record?

Calipari: "We are playing for a (NCAA) seed. We would like to win the tournament, but it is not the end-all for us. Our whole goal is the seed. If we lose the first game, we are not a one seed. If win the first game and lose, I think we have done enough to be a one. If we win two, fine. If we win three, fine.

"At Memphis, we were not playing to win a league championship. It is a little different here. If we lost a game (at Memphis), they would make us an eight seed. Here you can at least lose a game or two and you are fine."
