Alabama continued to hold UK off for several minutes into the second half before John Wall gave the Wildcats their first lead at 43-42 with an old fashioned three pointer. The Wildcats would never trail again, though the Tide did not go away easy. At the 5:45 mark DeMarcus Cousins hit a layup giving the Wildcats its largest lead at 63-54 but Alabama was not done.
The Tide hung tough and a pair of Torrance free throws brought them to within just three points of UK at the 1:44 mark. Patrick Patterson made a dunk to extend the lead to five and John Wall held the Tide off the rest of the way with free throws giving Kentucky a 73-67 win in Nashville.
Wall led Kentucky in scoring with 23 points. Patterson added 20. Kentucky was dominated on the glass by Alabama 44-32 and the Wildcats shot just 1-13 from three point range. But it was enough to allow the Cats move on to Sunday's semi-final.
Defensively, UK blocked six shots and held the Tide to just 35% FG shooting.
