ESPNU's signing day special will be well watched in the Bluegrass State as Kentucky expects to hear from Brandon Knight that he's going to become a Wildcat. But Kentucky may also secure a commitment from one of the top players in the 2011 class as well.
Michael Gilchrist will announce his college decision this week and for months the prevailing thought was that he was a Kentucky lean, although he's very high on another breed of Wildcats as well: Villanova.
Gilchrist will announce his decision live on ESPNU.
Gilchrist is described as an intense competetor on the wing and going to the basket. Not only is he an elite offensive prospect, but he's also one of the class's top defenders. The 6-foot-7 forward has been
described at times as the best player in high school basketball, regardless of class.
While most believe that Brandon Knight will ultimately sign with Kentucky, there have been rumors saying that Knight may sign with Connecticut as well. Kansas and Syracuse are also in the running for Knight's services.
Knight is a point guard with a scorer's mentality, but he can also run a team and make plays for his teammates. Knight not only goes to the basket, using his size, but he can also be deadly from three point range. To top it off, Knight's an A + student. If he signs with Kentucky, he'll be the heir-apparent to John Wall at the point.
