Senior defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin knows there are a lot of questions about the Kentucky defense that likely won't be answered in Saturday's Blue-White Game that will officially end spring practice.

Senior defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin knows there are a lot of questions about the Kentucky defense that likely won't be answered in Saturday's Blue-White Game that will officially end spring practice.

However, Lumpkin is not worried and has his own sales pitch ready to help the skeptics.

"The season is so far away. There will be a lot of learning going on and we also have some talented freshmen coming in that can help," said Lumpkin. "We are not even putting everything in this spring. This is basically like a test drive. You can go get that new Lexus and just drive it for a month. Right now we are doing that.

"Then you get to the fall and when you buy the car, that's when you start to see where we will be. What will be a nice addition? What you are going to take off the car that you don't need to get it ready for road use — which is the season? Right now everyone is young still and learning and even lining up wrong.

"But I can say that everyone up front now is playing hard. The intensity is so different from last year. We were a read defense and now we are an attack defense. It's a completely different thing. We are watching and not reading. It's a whole new concept and everyone is learning. Even I had to convert back to attacking because I got so used to trying to remember so many steps and reading that it was hard. But we are going to keep practicing in the summer and then fall camp and then we will get ready for Louisville. We'll have that new car ready to do."
