"He just finished up his visit with Michigan," said Darron Rogers, Head Coach at Westlake. "He's got some senior stuff to get out of the way, Prom, senior trip; those are things he wants to do right now."
However that won't stop him from making other visits. "He plans to go to Kentucky. He will visti Texas. Georgia and Alabama are also in the picture," said Rogers.
There were some questions about how deeply Kentucky was involved with Thornton with high rated prospects on the board, but John Calipari was in Atlanta visiting Marcus Sunday morning, selling him on the opportunity at Kentucky.
The 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward is not just a post up prospect. He can make plays with the ball in his hands. "He's just a complete player with perimeter skills as well as inside skills. he score his points in a variety of ways: from the perimeter, short jumpers, bringing the ball down the floor."
Thornton averaged 25 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks per game as a senior. "He was a beast. He led us in scoring and rebounding every game. He averaged about three or four dunks a game. He dunks off the dribble, off alley-oops and off steals.
"I see him as a more of a three (small forward). He takes the smaller guys inside. The bigger guys, he takes them off the dribble to the basket," said Rogers.
Thornton has worked to improve his game and Rogers expects that to continue. "he's one of the hardest working players I've coached," said Rogers. "He worked hard over the summer to get his perimeter game going," continued Rogers.
Expect more movement with Thornton in the coming weeks as he prepares to make his decision.
