Head Coach Dr. John Giannini has his second winning season already secured. Now, La Salle looks to position itself for a possible post-season bid to a tournament but first still needs to lay more groundwork with the season's final two games against A-10 foes Fordham on senior night before traveling to St. Louis for the conference finale.

With their most recent loss on Wednesday night, a frustrating 62-53 decision to the Richmond Spiders, La Salle once again fell below the .500 mark in Atlantic 10 conference play. Poor shooting and defensive lapses sealed the Spiders' web and once again left Explorers fans wondering why the program cannot get over the proverbial hump.

La Salle has won 7 of its last 9 games. The recent resurgence can be traced to one player. The player that has the ball in his hands most of the time and the player that wants the ball with the game on the line. He is the player that the team leans on. Rodney Green is making a push for all Atlantic 10 honors and his Explorers are along for the ride.

Everyone close to the La Salle program knew the early part of the conference schedule was going to be very difficult. After losing the conference opener to Temple and defeating Charlotte on the road for the first time ever, La Salle struggled with 15th ranked Xavier at the Cintas Center and the Explorers left still searching for that first signature win.

La Salle begins Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend against city rival Temple. The Explorers are currently 8-5 but have no impressive victories and 0-4 against Top 100 teams. Yet La Salle may be playing their best basketball now so the question begs to be asked. Can La Salle be an Atlantic 10 contender or are they a pretender. The Owls are the first test for the second half of the season.

For many one of the keys to the Explorers' season was the continued development of Ruben Guillandeaux. Many thought this would be his breakout year. After 11 games it was far from that as the junior guard has struggled with consistency and confidence issues. Yesterday, Guillandeaux gave everyone a taste of his talent.

La Salle lost another double digit second half lead at Cornell yesterday. Playing without junior center Vernon Goodridge the Explorers were hurt on the inside by Cornell's 7 footer big man Jeff Foote and lost to the Big Red 79-70.

La Salle has beaten the teams it should beat and probably have lost to teams it should have lost to just nine games into the 2008-2009 seasons. If the fans were to title the movie for the season thus far they might name it - opportunities missed. A win over Rider showed what the Explorers are capable of. Can the Explorers get out basketball purgatory and be a factor in the Atlantic 10?

Kimmani Barrett and Rodney Green both led La Salle with 14 points as the Explorers built a 13 point second half lead before holding on to defeat the Hartford Hawks in non-conference action. La Salle will now have a week off before returning to Tom Gola arena to face Big 5 rival Villanova.

La Salle lost a double digit lead for the fourth time this season in just its sixth game but managed to hold on and beat Bucknell 68-65 at Tom Gola arena. The Explorers were led by Kimmani Barrett's 15 points while Rodney Green chipped in 11 points.

After losing a heart-breaker Tuesday night to Florida State the Explorers tripped to St. Thomas with upset in mind as they battled hard with Connecticut in their opening game of the Paradise Jam. Same result but a different feeling as the buzzer sounded.

Amid great expectations and fanfare, La Salle's 2008-2009 opening game was a grind for both team and fans as the Explorers and Morgan State Bears battled neck and neck for 40 minutes before Dr. John Giannini's squad walked off with a 64-61 win before 2,211 fans at Tom Gola Arena.

Scout's 38th ranked player in the country officially joined the La Salle basketball family today signing a letter of intent according to Explorer head coach Dr. John Giannini in a press release today. However, only one announcement was made. With shooting guard Nurideen Lindsey also committed questions remain whether he will be in a La Salle uniform in the near future.

For two years, Explorer head coach Dr. John Giannini has pined for a small, quick point guard. One who can get into the lane on offense and one who can defend other point guards from getting into the lane. It doesn't hurt when that same player has three district championships, a state championship, and is the career leader in assists for the premier high school basketball program in Pennsylvania.

It wasn't pretty but it was sweet. La Salle overcame a seven point deficit late in the second half and escaped with an 82-79 opening round win over Duquesne in the Atlantic 10 tournament. They will face Temple tomorrow evening in a second round match-up.
