Explorers Fall Class Solid, More Needed

La Salle head coach John Giannini landed another good recruiting class this fall with three solid additions. The surprise and shocking announcement of Lavoy Allen to attend Temple has the Explorers staff looking at additional prospects to add the size the program needs for the spring signing period. Who are some of the possible prospects now and who could become prospects this spring?

La Salle fans need to be honest with themselves. Lavoy Allen was a huge miss this fall for Coach Giannini and the program. He was not only a big man but a good big man with skills the program desperately needs to reach the next level. The program probably needs another shooter but not before it can land a post defender. There are now several A-10 programs with talented big men on their roster starting next year and La Salle now has almost everything it needs to become a factor in the conference for several years. The obvious missing piece is a post defender. With 2 scholarships left the Explorers will unquestionably search for a big man. The problem is these players do not grow on trees and are high priority for BCS conference schools even if their current talent level does not match the school at this point and time. Therefore one big man in the spring may be the best hope while landing another shooter/scorer with the second scholarship.

The Explorers are currently waiting for Marcus and Markief Morris to make their college destination known. Their decision will directly impact what La Salle does with its available 2007 scholarships. Their choice seems to change with the flavor of the day so predicting which school they will select has been very tedious.

Let's take a look at some of the prospects La Salle has an interest in and who may become of interest in the future as the staff restarts the evaluation process for many other prospects. The pool below is broken down in known prospects La Salle has been interested in and ones that may become more focal because of impending issues such as grades early in their senior season.

Current Prospects La Salle has shown interest in:

Troy Blue - 6"4 2G Delaware Valley Charter – Scorer extreme. Can shoot from distance.

Marcus Relaphorde – 6"5 2G American Christian Academy – Athletic Chicago wing can play some point as well.

Mike Ringgold – 6"6 F Winchendon School – Former Roman Catholic star is a jack of all trades. Philly Catholic MVP last year.

Hamidu Rahman – 6"10 C American Christian – Impressive physical specimen had big schools chasing him but remains unsigned. Does coach Giannini have advantage with a pipeline to American Christian coach?

Guy Alang-Niang – 6"7 PF New Hampton Prep – Top flight athlete who's skills are catching up to his athleticism.

There are several other prospects west of Pennsylvania under consideration as well. All frontcourt players. Look for Coach Giannini to sign at least one post player and the best available player after that.
