Second year head coach Gil Jackson is still making his mark as builder of the Howard University Bison program. Jackson, a former assistant to Fran Dunphy while at Penn has a mixture of young talent and some returning experience. The Bison will start two freshmen to go along with two returning seniors as well as a sophomore in Philadelphia native Eugene Myatt.
Myatt, from Luthern Academy, and senior forward Darryl Hudson led the Bison to their first victory of the year last Sunday;, an 86-81 victory of Tennessee-Martin. Hudson led the way with 25 points while Myatt chipped in with 23. Hudson is the leading returning scorer and is joined by fellow senior Will Gant as the senior starters. Gant is a prolific three point shooter and is knocking them down at a 50% clip. The size for the Bison is extremely young and inexperienced. Paul Kirkpatrick will get the start at center and even though he is 6"9 he is only playing in his fourth collegiate game.
Howard actually shoots a higher percentage from the three point arc (37%) than from the floor (36%). They are getting out-rebounded by over 10 rebounds a game. Their two losses have been by double digits to Cincinnati and High Point.
