Devon White Selects La Salle

Explorers head coach Dr. John Giannini announced today that 6"8 power forward prosepct Devon White from Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend La Salle next season.

Devon White had been on the La Salle recruiting radar for some time. Just how hard the Explorers had pushed for White was the question to most on the outside. At one time it appeared White was headed to Drexel and then he indicated that the possibility to move away from home appealed to him. In the end the La Salle coaching staff looked at their roster, and the attributes that Devon White could bring to the floor and decided they were just too good to pass on. Now White is staying home to play for the Explorers.

He led his Strawberry Mansion high school team to the PIAA Class AA championship game against Jeanette High School. When he was not on the floor in that game his team suffered. He used his long frame and shot blocking instincts to disrupt shots and made life miserable for super-phenom Terrell Pryor. White is a prototypical high school big man. His defense is ahead of his offense. However, La Salle needs a post presence on defense and White seems to fit that bill perfectly. He is long and athletic and has terrific shot-blocking insticts that cannot be taught.

White slected La Salle over Nebraska and Robert Morris among others."Devon was clearly an outstanding high school player this last year. However I think he will continue to progress and be a really outstanding college player," Giannini said through a school press release. White averaged 11.6 points and 12 rebounds per game while swatting away four shots during his senior season.
