Mens Hoops Takes On Bulldogs

The ULM men's basketball team will conclude its season-long five-game road trip on Saturday (Dec. 4) when it travels to Ruston, La., to meet Louisiana Tech. Game time between the warhawks and bulldogs is scheduled for 7 p.m., at the Thomas Assembly Center.

ULM (2-6) enters the contest on a short turnaround after playing at Kent State on Thursday (Dec. 2). The Warhawks fell to the Golden Flashes, 69-53. Kent state closed the first half on a 16-1 run; building a lead that ULM was unable to overcome. junior guard Hugh Mingo scored a team-high 16 points for the Warhawks; senior forward Tommie Sykes tied a career-high with 10 rebounds.

Mingo, who is averaging 14.2 points per game over the past five games, is one of three Warhawks that ranks in the top-10 in the Sun Belt in minutes. Senior forward Lawrence Gilbert ranks second, playing 35.8 minutes per game, junior guard Fred Brown is third at 35.3 minutes per contest and Mingo is seventh, playing 33.8 minutes per game.

Louisiana Tech (6-2) is coming off a 69-64 home victory on Wednesday night (Dec. 1) over SMU. Sophomore guard Brandon Gibson led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 12 rebounds against the Mustangs. DeAndre Brown is leading Louisiana Tech in scoring on the season averaging 17.4 points per contest. Olu Ashaolu is averaging 13.5 points and a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game. The Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh in the western athletic conference.

Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series, 48-36. Last season, the Bulldogs earned a 76-73 win in Monroe (Dec. 2, 2009) when Kyle Gibson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer. The two schools, separated by 32 miles, have played each of the past two seasons, both Louisiana tech victories, after not playing since the 1990-91 season. that season, ULM earned a 100-89 victory on jan. 28, 1991, ULM's last win in the series.
