In a nut shell:Drew Granier tossed a complete game and Judd Edwards went 4-for-5 with a home run as ULM topped Southern Utah 7-1 Friday night to open a four-game series. The Warhawks (7-5) collected 11 hits off the Thunderbirds (5-5).
Arms raceGranier (1-0) struck out 10 and scattered six hits with one walk allowed. During one stretch, he retired 15 consecutive batters until Brock Westphal's two-out pinch single in the eighth. < /p>
Heavy metal: Edwards roped his first homer of the season and third of his career with a solo shot past the fair pole in left in the seventh. Joey Rapp showed off his power with a double that hit the Maroon Monster on the fly. Rapp went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Corben Green was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Gift of grab: ULM didn't commit an error in the game. The Warhawks have played five errorless games, going 3-2.
Did you catch this? When Southern Utah scored a run off Granier in the top of the second, it ended a streak of 30 2/3 innings where ULM pitchers had not allowed an earned run.
Weird stat of the day: Fifth-year senior Matt Laird was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning for the first time in his ULM career.
