In a nut shell:Les Aulds delivered a two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth Sunday as ULM rallied to top Southern Utah 8-6 at Warhawk Field. The win completed a four-game sweep of the non-conference series and kept ULM on a five-game winning streak heading into conference play next weekend. Aulds finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Joey Rapp went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. He stroked an RBI single in ULM's three-run eighth. James Jones (4-1) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings in relief to claim his second win in as many days. Jones allowed one hit and fanned two.
Arms raceA short outing for Sunday starter Kendall Thamm, who allowed seven hits and a run in two innings. Thamm was making his third start in a bid to win weekend job on the mound. Shelby Aulds had his rockiest performance in relief as he gave up five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings and hit three batters. Southern Utah knocked him out of the game with back-to-back homers in the seventh. < /p>
Heavy metal: Rapp tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run blast to left in the fifth. It was Rapp's second HR of the series and third of the season.
Did you catch this? With Corben Green (knee) out of the lineup, Joey Rapp started at first base. Replacing Rapp in right was Taylor Abdalla. Other changes included Jarrett Hammond at third and Judd Edwards at DH. Jeremy Sy started at shortstop but made an early exit due to illness. Jeff Fuller replaced Sy in the field.
Gift of grab: Making his second start of the year at third, versatile Hammond speared a hard liner on the bounce and threw out the Southern Utah's leadoff hitter Tyson Weber in the fourth inning.
Weird stat of the day: Southern Utah out hit ULM 13-12. It was ULM's first win when the opponent had more hits.
