Hard Hitting Safety Is In

The safety or hawk position in the ULM 3-3-5 defensive scheme plays a very important role with coverage and run support. Warhawk Nation.com has confirmed that ULM landed a hard hitter this weekend.

You want your safety to bring the wood and that is exactly what Dunbar Forth Worth athlete Alex Johnson brings to the field.

The 6'0 185 pounder gave his verbal commitment to the Warhawks this weekend on his official visit to campus.

"Coach Gilbert came to my school early in the season and started talking with me. I had a lot of schools that were talking to me but ULM seemed to have the most interest in me, they stayed in touch".

Johnson said the Warhawks want him to come in and compete at the hawk position. "They like my aggressive style and the way I get after the ball", said Alex.

Alex was a 1st team All District selection in 6-4A as he picked off 4 passes and returned one to the house. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

"Oklahoma State talked to me about playing safety and WR, Kansas State and Southern Illinois were talking about wide receiver".

Johnson played wide receiver his junior season and garnered 2nd team all district honors but says ULM recruited him specifically for safety.

Johnson reports a 4.5 forty time with a 32 inch vertical and a 3.5 GPA in the classroom. He is planning on majoring in radio technology at ULM.

Alex is the fourth confirmed commitment from east Texas this weekend.
