Good News For Savone

Denied his senior season by the LHSAA, Thomas Jefferson athlete Brandon Savone didn't let that stop his dream. Warhawk Nation has the story on this ULM commitment.

It's not everyday a high school athlete misses his senior season and still lands a college scholarship but Thomas Jefferson's Brandon Savone did just that.

It's was tough not being able to play with my teammates", said Savone. "I didn't let it discourage me, I still worked out with them, practiced with them, I just couldn't play on Friday night".

When Brandon was a Freshman he transferred from a private school to Thomas Jefferson but was told his credits wouldn't count. "I basically repeated the 9th grade A.T. Thomas Jefferson but eligibility wise I was already considered a sophomore".

"I tried for a hardship waiver with the LHSAA but it was denied so my last year of high school football was my junior season".

A tough break for Brandon considering the private school he transferred from did not even play football.

Savone credits his high school coach getting him recognized on the college recruiting scene.

"I owe it all to Coach Kevin Kelly". "He called ULM and told them he had some prospects that they should come look at".

"Coach Applewhite came down to talk to us and the next week came back with Coach Reffett".

"They said they were interested in me and that I was what they were looking for".

Savone is 6'2 and 200 pounds. He runs a shade under 4.6 and says he is being recruited to play OLB for the Warhawks.

"ULM came to my house over the Christmas break and asked me to take an official visit and that if I like it they would offer me a scholarship".

Brandon scored a 25 on his ACT and already has 9 college credits towards his accounting degree when he enrolls at ULM.

"I will probably red shirt my first season, ULM has 3 SR linebackers and that will allow me to get back up to the speed of the game and allow me to get bigger, faster, and stronger".

Savone is the first ever Division 1 prospect to ever come out of Thomas Jefferson high school.
