Nebraska extended offers to a pair of Louisiana 2013 wide receivers this week: Donald Gage (Zachary) and Devin Scott (West Jefferson). One is visiting Lincoln, while the other almost made the trip before changing his mind en route to the airport tonight. Get the details on that and much more inside...
West Jefferson wide receiver Devin Scott, who is committed to the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette, got an offer from Nebraska yesterday and flew to Lincoln this morning on his official visit. Nebraska recruiter Terry Joseph hails from the same West Bank area of New Orleans where West Jeff is located.
Donald Gage, a Houston commit, had a great visit with Coach Pelini that didn't end until 10 P.M. Thursday night, per sources in the Gage camp. The Zachary wide receiver and his family pondered whether to visit Nebraska throughout Friday morning and late into this afternoon before deciding to make the trip. However, Gage had a change of heart on the way to the airport.
Four-star LSU commit Josh Boutte was expected to visit the Cajuns this weekend. No word yet on whether Boutte arrived in Lafayette for his official. It's possible that both Boutte and Tevin Lawson will be in Lafayette this weekend. Lawson, a defensive tackle from Denham Springs, is considering several options after being asked by LSU to take a greyshirt. Both big men originally committed to the Tigers months ago.
Lawson's teammate, three-star running back Kaleb Blanchard, pledged his services to South Alabama. Blanchard was a long-time Arkansas commit before the Razorbacks brought in a new staff.
LSU got a verbal from John Curtis Christian linebacker Duke Riley this week during an in-home visit from Tigers' recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson, who ripped up the paperwork for a greyshirt in dramatic fashion prior to presenting Riley with a 2013 offer, which he accepted on the spot.
Jermaine Antoine (Loreauville), a soft commit to North Texas, hopes to grab a TCU offer this weekend. He departed on a flight bound for Fort Worth at 5:50 P.M. this evening.
2014 wide receiver Cameron Sims (Ouachita) reported new offers this week from Arkansas, Texas Tech and TCU. His current leader is Alabama, which offered last weekend.
LSU head coach Les Miles is doing his homework on a couple of underclassmen: 2014 QB Brandon Harris (Parkway) and 2015 RB Derrius Guice (Catholic-Baton Rouge). Both playmakers are getting interest from Miles.
Southern Miss secured a commitment from Christopher Robinson, a three-star defensive tackle out of Woodlawn-Shreveport. Robinson was teammates with four-star DE/LB hybrid Torshiro Davis (Texas) two years ago.
Ex-LSU commit Chuck Baker (Salmen) is committed to Southern but Southeastern Louisiana hopes to lure him away from the Jaguars. The Lions hosted Baker for a visit last weekend.
Bobbie Temple, a big physical safety from O. Perry Walker, holds offers from Jackson State and Nicholls State. There are reports that Temple may have pulled the trigger in favor of Jackson St.
