Sun Belt Conference play arrives for ULM baseball tonight as the Warhawks visit Louisiana-Lafayette to open a three-game series.
The Friday night game starts at 6, with first pitches at 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. ULM is 8-9 after losing four straight, including dropping a pair of midweek games to No. 6 Ole Miss. ULL has won seven of its last eight to surge to 13-3.
Right-hander Carey Taylor (1-1, 3.26) will open the series for ULM. Cale Wine (2-2, 2.33) and Alex Dumaine (1-0, 2.46) are also part of ULM's current weekend rotation.
The Cajuns shuffled their pitching mix for ULM and will start left-hander Ryan Wilson (1-1, 2.00) in game one. ULL will toss two lefties in the series with Cody Boutte (3-0, 5.59) scheduled to pitch Sunday's finale. Right-hander Austin Robichaux (2-0, 2.25 ERA, 20.0 IP) will start on Saturday for ULL.
ULM is hitting .235 as a team with 10 home runs. The pitching staff has a 4.20 ERA.
Extra bases: Kodie Tidwell and Corben Green lead the Warhawks with five multi-hit games each. ... ULM has outscored opponents 16-7 in the first inning this season. ... The Ragin' Cajuns hold a 66-52 advantage in the all-time series, but ULM won the final four meetings a season ago including a 17-0 rout in the season finale to complete a three-game sweep in Monroe. ... Wine fell to 2-2 on the season after allowing two earned runs in two innings of work against Ole Miss Tuesday. During his 37-pitch outing, Wine gave up three hits and one walk while striking out one. ... The Ragin' Cajuns are 11-2 at home this season with their losses coming to Central Michigan (L, 2-10, Feb. 17) and LSU (L, 2-11, Feb. 26). ... Catcher Michael Strentz and infielder Tyler Girouard lead ULL in hitting at .395 and .394. ... The Warhawks are 6-3 in night games and 2-6 in day games.
