ULM Spring Practice Update: March 27, 2007

It was a cloudy day at Malone stadium as the Warhawks practiced for their second to last time this spring. RB Frank Goodin continues to look impressive and will see plenty of action this year spelling Calvin Dawson.

With only one practice remaining and the annual Maroon and Gold game, things are looking pretty good for the ULM run game. The Warhawks have a stable of running backs to choose from but the pecking order looks to have been established.

Calvin Dawson participate in live drills but was held to no contact until the spring game. Former West Monroe standout Frank Goodin has established himself and the man that will spell Dawson this coming season. Running with power and speed, Goodin is hitting the hole and breaking tackles with authority. On one particular play, Goodin ran off left tackle, shook off a would be tackler, and exploded into the end zone for a 25+ yard touchdown.

Tay Ogletree looks to be the third option at this point with Gary Frazier locking down the short yardage job. The kicking game looked a lot better today as Cole Wilson made several long fg attempts. Punter Scott Love is still trying to find his groove in live situation punts but is coming along well.

Injury Update: J.J. McCoy, Larry Shappley, and Chavous McWhorter continue to nurse off season injuries. OL Doug Stroud was carted off the field at practice Tuesday with an apparent knee injury. Details were not released as to the severity of the injury. The Louisiana-Monroe mens basketball team(below) dropped by after workouts to check out the football team.

The Warhawks will hit the practice field for the last time this Thursday. On Saturday the Maroon team will take on the Gold team in the annual spring game. Look for a full report from WarhawkNation.com.
