Warhawks Add DE Autwell To 2008 Class

It didnt take Michael long to decide where he wanted to play his college ball. Autwell will bring his skills to the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2008.

At 6'4 225 and still growing, Michael Autwell made it official Sunday night when he gave his verbal commitment to the ULM Warhawks.

Michael attended the ULM lineman camp this past Saturday and knew this was the place for him. "My dad and I drove around the campus afterwards and we both liked what we saw."

"I really like how the campus is set up", said Autwell. I am an outdoors kind of guy. I like to hunt and fish so the bayou running through ULM was something that caught my eye. When I'm not in class or at practice I can just walk outside my dorm room and go fishing."

Last year as a DE Michael earned second team All District honors in class 15-4A. Midlothian High Defensive Coordinator Craig Carpenter had nothing but high praise for his Senior to be DE. "Michael is one of those blue collar hard workers who stays in the weight room."

"Michael does everything we ask of him and I am looking forward to having him for one more year. "He is very deserving of this offer and we are very excited for him." Last season Autwell posted 65 total tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 qb hurries, and recovered a fumble.

"Michael has good speed, great lower body strength, and explosion off the ball", said Carpenter. We timed Michael in the high 4.7's in the forty and his bench, squat, and power clean numbers continue to go up each time we max."

Other teams that were showing interest in Michael include TCU, UNT, Baylor, and UTEP. "I visited UTEP last summer and it just wasn't for me. "I choose ULM because it's closer to home, I really like the campus atmosphere, and the good Louisiana food."

"TCU wanted me to send them game film but I would rather play sooner than wait until my Senior season to get playing time." Michael says he would like to red shirt his first year so that he can get faster and stronger. "Whatever the coaches want me to do, that is what I will do", said Autwell.

Michael is undecided on his major at this time but says he wouldn't mind a physical therapy or chiropractic career after college.
