Warhawks Add Another 2008 Texas Commitment

The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks have added yet another Lone Star commitment to their 2008-2009 class. ULM will add a center fielder with great contact skills to already talented team.

The ULM Warhawks continue to add to their 2008 recruiting class when they received a verbal commitment from Martin Arlington high school Outfielder Jake Mizell.

Jake is a 6'2 190 pound outfielder who throws left and bats left. "My primary position is center field but I can play any outfield position", said Mizell. Secondary positions for Jake include first baseman and pitcher.

Last year the Martin Warriors captured the District 8-5A regular season title with a record of 12-2. They also boasted a league best 33-12 record while reaching the class 5A regional finals. The Warriors would fall to Midland Lee 4-5 in 10 innings in game one and 7-9 in game two.

"I came to ULM over the summer for a baseball camp on July 13, 14, and 15. Really had a great time and was able to pick up some good pointers from the coaching staff." Although Jake traveled to Monroe for a camp, he is no stranger to the campus or the city. "My grandfather owns a business right on 165 next to ULM, so I am very familiar with the area."

"It had been awhile since I visited Monroe and seen the campus and almost didn't recognize it. The new dorm rooms were cool and the campus looked very nice."

This past season Jake batted in the 5th and 6th holes but says this year he might take on a new role. "My coach has been talking to me about leading off this season." I am a good 2 strike hitter and don't strike out much so I am looking forward to giving it a shot".

Last season Jake hit .347 (25 for 72) with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run, and 12 RBI's. In the teams deep playoff run Jake hit .471 (16 for 34) with 6RBI, 2 triples, and 5 doubles. Other schools Jake considered included Houston, LaTech, Sam Houston, Dallas Baptist, and Texas St.
