Gladewater WR Griffin Makes It ULM

Smooth, sure handed wide out Julian Griffin pulls the trigger on ULM offer after official visit. Griffin makes the first wide receiver commitment for the Warhawks in the 2008 class.

Gladewater high school wide receiver Julian Griffin (6'3 195) official visit to the campus of ULM this weekend left a good impression on him and his family. "After my tour of the campus, meeting and talking to the players and coaches, and just the fact that I felt really welcome, I committed to ULM", said Griffin.

"My family and I got on campus late Friday night, woke up the next day and got started on my visit. Nate Brown was my host and he showed me around a good bit. He introduced me to Greg James, Darrell McNeal and lineman Kendall Mouton. Those were some cool dudes and they made me feel right at home".

"The campus was very nice, all new and they were still adding on to it. We checked out the stadium, the locker rooms and weight room. I like that field turf ULM has and they mentioned that there were getting a new video jumbotron for next season. After that I sat down and watched some film with Coach Wells. I will fit in good with the spread offense because it gets the receivers in one on one situations, and that is a strength of mine".

Overall it was a really good trip for me. My mom and dad really liked ULM plus its only two and a half hours from home so they won't have to travel far to come watch me play.

As a senior at Gladewater Julian caught 41 passes for 678 yards and 10 touchdowns. In two seasons as a starter he caught a total of 77 passes for 1,199 yards and 19 touchdowns. Julian carries and impressive 3.3 GPA and scored an 18 on his last ACT test. "I thought about a degree in physical therapy but I will decide when I get on campus this summer".

ESPN Scout's Inc recruiting experts gave Julian high marks and had this to say about their #173 ranked WR in the nation. "Griffin is smooth receiver prospect who excels in the red zone. Utilizes his tall, long body to work proper positioning on smaller defensive backs. Blends adequate initial quicks and hand escapes getting off the line of scrimmage and slipping outside of corner backs. Shows good body control and coordination adjusting to the ball while it's in the air. Flashes great arm extension and hands plucking the jump ball at its highest point; excels at the fade route. Hands are soft, reliable and he can make the difficult grab look effortless. Shows the ability to come up with the big catch in traffic and could be a valuable possession receiver in college".

When it came down to it, what was it that sold you on ULM? "The coaching staff really cared about me. Talking to the players, they were already pumped up about next year, and I like the schedule next year. I am looking forward to the Auburn game, I want to make something happen".
