The ULM Warhawks picked up a huge commitment when they added O.P.Walker athlete Wayne Jacobs to their list of 2008 commitments. Jacobs 5'6 165 will bring instant speed to the Warhawks offense in a variety of ways.
Jacobs who also runs track was clocked at the New Orleans scout combine with a time of 4.41 but he says that's not his fastest time. "I've posted a 4.29 and 4.35 on separate occasions", said Jacobs. Wayne also competes in the 100 meter and has a personal best of 10.30 at the AAU nationals last summer.
"I drove up to Monroe this weekend for my official visit to ULM", said Wayne. D-Mac (aka Darrell McNeal) was my host and we hit it off real well. He showed me the ropes and we watched some highlights from last year".
Jacobs was being recruited by defensive line coach Manny Michel and says ULM is recruiting him to play receiver. "The coaches want to get me the ball on some screens and reverses so I can use my speed". Wayne said ULM is looking for him to contribute as a true freshman.
What was it that convinced Wayne that ULM was the one? "I really like the stadium and turf and can't wait to play on it. ULM is a perfect fit for me. I drove up by myself and there was just something special about the trip. I have taken several trips but this one just felt like home when I got there. I just really like that stadium".
Despite missing 5 games his senior year Jacobs caught 17 passes for 550 (32ypc avg) yards and 5 touchdowns. He amassed over 900 all purpose yards and scored three more touchdowns on special teams.
Jacobs is planning to major in Marketing when he enrolls at ULM. Wayne said he tripped to Nichols, ULL, and ULM and held offers from the three schools along with North Texas and Mississippi State.
