The ULM Warhawks have received great news from the sunshine state. It seems the ULM coaching staff has done a great job of finding late qualifiers and they have done it once again.
Expected to sign a NLI to the University of Louisiana Monroe tomorrow is running back Carl Elie of Immokalee high school in Florida. Carl is a 5'10 195 4.41/40 back that can pound the ball in between the tackles but also bust it to the outside and explode into the open field.
Elie who before his senior season ever started had colleges flocking to his HS daily to take a look at him. In fact the Wisconsin badgers offered him a full ride before he ever ran the ball once this year. South Florida soon followed but then Carl started to slip a little in the classroom those BCS schools started to back off. "I don't blame them one bit. If I was a coach and in their situation I would have backed off too. It's their job on the line".
Head Coach John Weber had this to say about his star running back. "Carl is a slashing type running style to him. He has great vision and can really hit the hole hard and burst to top speed. He played with a hurt ankle in 5 of our games and missed two of those. Still he ran for 1,080 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. As a junior he was a workhorse gaining 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns for us".
"If I had my grades where they should have been Wisconsin would have never backed off but hey that is what God had planed for me", said Carl. Carl recently retook the ACT and scored an 18 to go along with his 2.9 GPA making him academically eligible.
Carl took his official visit to ULM last week and had this to say about his trip. "I liked everything on my visit. The guys I hung out with were really cool and the weather was real nice. The coaching staff really made me feel at home. It was a difficult decision for me you know. Basically you are making a choice for the next 4 years of your life. ULM is a program that is rising very fast and I want to be apart of that".
Elie won't come to ULM a stranger. One of his former teammates and friend Brandon McCray is currently a red shirt freshman. "Yea I know big Brandon, he blocked for me last year".
Along with his offers from ULM, Wisconsin, and USF, Elie also held offers from FAU, Western Illinois, and received some last minute interest from Miami. With the loss of Calvin Dawson to the NFL, Carl is expected to join Frank Goodin and Luther Ambrose in the backfield next year. The three will look to cause big match up problems for opposing defenses.
