In its second year in the Sun Belt Conference, the ULM baseball team was selected to finish eighth by the league coaches in the preseason poll released today by the league office.
The Warhawks finished in a tie for fifth place last year missing out on second place by just a half game.
"We don't put much stock into the preseason polls," ULM head coach Jeff Schexnaider said. "We were picked to finish at the bottom last year and ended up finishing fifth. The polls are all about respect and we still have to prove to the coaches in this league that we deserve some by what we do on the field."
Louisiana-Lafayette was picked to repeat as champions in the league, while ULL's Danny Farquhar was tabbed Preseason Pitcher of the Year and New Orleans' Johnny Giavotella was selected as Preseason Player of the Year.
ULM opens the season on Feb. 22 at Nicholls State in the first of three games. The first chance to catch the Warhawks at home is Feb. 27 against Louisiana Tech with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Warhawk Field.
The Warhawks will hold their annual Fan Day on Sunday beginning with a children's clinic at 1:00 p.m. and concluding with an inter squad game at 4:00 p.m.
