The hits came early and often for the ULM Warhawks this afternoon in a 11-9 victory over the visiting Bearkats of Sam Houston.
The Bearkats got on the board first when DH Bobby Verbick launched a three run shot to left center field scoring Keith Stein and Ryan Weber.
ULM would answer in the bottom on the first putting a three spot on the scoreboard to tie things up. After a sacrifice fly by Dexter Fontenot scored Jon Prevost, A.J. Sigger belted a 2 run homer to right, his third of the year.
An RBI double by leadoff hitter Keith Stein in the top of the second would give the Bearkats a short lived one run lead. In the bottom half of the second the home Warhawks would take the lead for good chasing Bearkat starter Dallas Gallant from the game. ULM would score 5 runs on 5 hits and leave the bases loaded when Nick Wade struck out swinging.
In the top of the third Sam Houston would chase ULM starter Ryan Kirk for reliever D.J. Fortenberry. The Bearkats scored 2 runs on three hits highlighted by a Todd Sebek RBI double to right center scoring Verbick.
ULM would get one run back in the bottom of the third and they would do it with no hits. Louie Lancaster scored on a wild pitch by Brent Powers. Lancaster reached on an error and advanced to second on the throw. Jon Prevost laid down the sacrifice bunt allowing Lancater to move over to third followed by the wild pitch.
Sam Houston would put one run up in the top of the sixth on a Seth Hammock RBI single to center field. ULM would add two runs in the bottom on the 8th when Kyle Suire hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left center field. Matt Collins would single in Siggers making the score 11-7 Warhawks.
In the top of the ninth Sam Houston's player of the game Bobby Verbick blasted his second home run , a solo shot followed by a RBI single by Heath Pugh. Warhawk reliever Darrell Ward would settle down and strike out Daniel Bottebart to end the game and secure the win.
Ben Soignier, Matt Collins, and Ryan McMilian each had three hits for the Warhawks. Kyle Suire, Louie Lancaster, and A.J. Siggers all left the yard via the long ball. For Suire and Siggers it was their third of the year and first for Lancaster.
The two teams will wrap up the series tommorrow with a 1PM first pitch start. ULM will send Drew Graham to the mound and the Bearkats will counter with Zach Neal.
