If coaches didn't know who Russell was before, they will when he gets done with his 12 camp tour across the South.
"So far I have camped at Baylor, UNT, Oklahoma, UNLV, and ULM", said Andrew Russell. This Sunday I am headed over to Southern Methodist and then Monday I will be at the UTEP camp. After that I have Louisville and about four more".
"Last year we didn't win a single game and it's kind of hard to get recruited when your not winning", said the 6'4 287 pound Russell. This year we have a new coach and I think we are going to surprise some people".
So far college coaches are starting to take notice as Andrew has picked up two offers. "ULM was my first offer and I picked up my second offer this last week while I was at UNLV.
At the ULM camp I met Coach Farmer and he said he really likes my aggresive physical style that I play with. I don't quit until I hear the whistle blow. At UNLV we didnt run any drills, we just scrimmaged the whole time. They wanted to see how we played in game time situations.
While Russell is getting his name out at these camps, he says distance will be a factor when he narrows down his college choices. "I would rather play closer to home so my parents can see me play".
So where do the Warhawks sit on Russell's list so far? "Oh they are at the top right now", said Andrew. I'm a country boy that likes to hunt and fish and there is plenty of that in Louisiana".
Andrew took the ACT as a sophomore and scored a 21. He currently holds a 3.1 GPA. Russell has a bench of 390, squat of 500 and runs a 4.8 shuttle. Colleges are recruiting him at the Guard and Center positions.
