Warhawks Sign 2008 Athlete Prelow

ULM fans you just thought the class of 2008 was behind us. Add one more to this years crop in the name Darius Prelow of Southwood high school in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The 2008 ULM recruiting class just added another name to the list. Darius Prelow, a 6'0 190 pound running back from Southwood high school signed with the ULM Warhawks yesterday after touring the campus and meeting the coaching staff.

"This is just a blessing for me", said Prelow. I was off to Chicago to play junior college ball and just do through the recruiting process again in 2 years. I was impressed with campus, the atmosphere, and especially the coaching staff at ULM. They are leaders".

Prelow just missed the window this past February waiting on his ACT scores to come back in. When they didn't make it in on time, all the schools that were recruiting him went in another direction. "Darius was being recruited by Southern Miss, ULM, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, and Northwestern State", said head coach Scott Abernathy. Southern Miss was very high on him but when they had all their coaching changes and Darius didn't have his grades he got lost in the shuffle. Arkansas really liked Darius after his junior year. He tallied around 360 total yards against a very good West Monroe Rebel defense that year but again his scores hurt him".

"Darius played pretty much wherever we needed him most", said Abernathy. He was first team all district as a kick returner his junior year and 2nd team running back. As a senior he picked up 1st team all district as a running back and 2nd team kick returner. He returned the opening kickoff 92 yards in our jamboree for a score and teams never kicked to him again".

Last year Darius rushed for right at 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 5 passes for 105 yards and a score.

"We are excited to get Darius", said ULM coach Bob Leahy. He is going to be moving to the defensive side of the ball and we will try him out on special teams, let him return some kicks".
