The Warhawks picked up their fifth commitment for the class of 2009 when Richardson offensive lineman Andrew Russell gave his verbal to the ULM coaching staff. When we last talked to Russell he was about to hit the road for camps at Tulsa, Louisville and Louisiana Tech. "I made it to the Tulsa and Louisville camps and they both went well", said Russell. Louisville was interested in me but said they couldn't offer right away, it would have to be closer to when the season starts".
"The more I thought about it though, ULM is where my heart was telling me. I had the camp left at Tech but I called up Coach Wells and Coach Farmer and told them that I wanted to commit to them". I went to a lot of places this summer but I just kept coming back to ULM, it was my favorite".
Russell says that most schools were looking at him at the guard or center positions. "ULM is recruiting me to come in and play center". I feel like I will be able to come and fit in well with the team. Work hard, show them what I can do, and hopefully get some early playing time".
Andrew was holding an offer from UNLV and getting strong interest from schools like UTEP, Baylor, and LaTech. "I feel like Baylor was on the verge of offering me", said Russell. They told me that they had already offered another guy and if he didn't commit, the offer was mine. I didn't want to be that secondary guy though.
So what was the main selling point on your commitment to the Warhawks? "The ULM coaching staff is as genuine as you will find. I appreciate their honesty and integrity while they recruited me".
Russell plans on majoring in Business at ULM and hopes to get into real estate when he graduates. Andrew is already academically qualified with a 3.1 GPA and a 21 on his ACT.
