Clogging The Line With Cogswell

Evangel Christian Academy has played in some big games over the years but this Friday nights match up against top ranked Bastrop will one of the biggest.

"We are sitting at 5-1 right now", said Blake Cogswell. Really we should be 4-2 but we got a forfeit win back because Longview (Texas) used an ineligible player in our game. Our week two game was canceled because of the Hurricane so on a days notice we traveled to play them and got beat 54-32.

"I actually think its bull that we got the win back, they beat us. One player does not make a team especially since the guy played late in the game and really wasn't a factor".

"Since then we have won three games in a row and tossed shutouts in each of them. Our offense is averaging 60pts a game as well over that span".

Enter the #1 team in the state, the Bastrop Rams. A team that has won 49 straight home games and is threatening to break the state record of 60 straight held by none other than Evangel.

The Rams will have their hands full as well trying to contain one of the states best nose tackles in Cogswell. As a junior Blake tallied 94 tackles, 34 for a loss, and 23 sacks. The senior isn't putting up those kind of numbers in 2008 because he is playing on both sides of the ball this year.

"Yea I moved to right guard this year on offense". As a defensive player I can't stand it but anything I can do to help the team, especially my senior year, I will do".

I moved to defensive tackle this year because I am playing with 2 broken ribs and I don't get as many shots as I would at nose tackle". Through the first six games Blake has 48 tackles and three quarterback sacks. His hop scotch position changes might not end there either.

Our coaches have been working me in a little bit at middle linebacker this week so that I can help with stopping the run.

Cogswell plans to take his official visit to ULM after his senior season is complete but is planning on taking an unofficial visit this Saturday night when ULM takes on North Texas for homecoming.
