ULM junior safety Josh Thompson was named Sun Belt Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Thompson recorded 20 tackles in the Warhawks 35-23 victory over North Texas this past Saturday.
Thompson's 20 tackles were the 11th most in Warhawk history and the most in head coach Charlie Weatherbie's six seasons at ULM. The Lafayette, La., native also had a pair of pass breakups and helped hold the high-powered North Texas passing offense to no plays of over 25 yards.
An All-Sun Belt selection as a sophomore, Thompson has recorded double-digit tackles in each of the last three games (14, 12, 20) and has 71 tackles on the season, just one behind team-leader Cardia Jackson. He also ranks 12th nationally and third in the Sun Belt averaging 10.1 tackles per game.
This is the first Sun Belt Player of the Week honor for ULM this season to go along with three Louisiana Defensive Player of the Week recognitions.
The Warhawks host preseason conference favorite Florida Atlantic this weekend in Malone Stadium at 6 p.m. in a game televised by ESPN+. Tickets for the game, including the Family Pack, are available by visiting the ULM ticket office in Malone Stadium or by calling 318-342-3ULM.
