Warhawks Swoop In On Smith

Franklin County defensive back Alex Smith has been verbally committed to Southern Miss since his junior season. Smith took a recent trip to ULM and came away re-thinking his college choices.

"I got to Monroe a little bit before kickoff so I didn't get a chance to look around campus. From what I did see, I was impressed. I really liked how the corner backs and safeties play in the secondary".

Alex Smith committed to the Eagles of Southern Mississippi in April at the end of his junior season. Looking back, Alex feels he might have rushed his decision committing so soon. "I think I jumped too soon when I committed. At the time I guess I felt like that I wouldn't get anymore offers so I committed".

While Smith is still committed to USM, it's obvious that ULM has gained the interest of the 5'10 185 defensive back.

ULM and Coach Adams have been very straight forward and truthful with me. My visit felt real good, like a home away from home. I am definitely keeping my options open; ULM has a real good shot. The Warhawks seem real interested in me; I can see myself being a part of the ULM team. I am going to take my official visits after the season and then make a decision".

As a junior Smith rushed for 1,132 yards and 10 touchdowns while doubling as a defensive back. He recorded 35 tackles, picked off 7 passes and had more than 20 pass break ups. Franklin currently sits at 8-1 (3-1) and is looking to get back to the Class 3A state title game.

Besides USM and ULM, Memphis is also trying to get Alex to come up for a visit. "Those are my top 3 schools", said Smith.
