The Warhawks are coming off a disappointing 4-8 season in which they were supposed to have their best team since the arrival of Charlie Weatherbie. Pre-season polls had ULM pegged for a third place finish, their highest predicted finish ever in the Sun Belt.
The team however struggled defensively giving up an average of 31 points per game and 445 yards of offense a game. That number ranks ULM 108 out of 119 teams in total defense. The Warhawks yielded an average of 5.7 yards per carry or 212 rush yards a game. Those numbers are the highest since Coach Weatherbie arrived in 2003.
2003 - 182 rush yards allowed
2004 - 177
2005 - 190
2006 - 150
2007 - 153
2008 - 212
In a statement release by the University Coach Weatherbie had this to say.
""I would like to thank Coach Elmassian and Coach Michel for their hard work, but I felt that it was in the best interest of the ULM football program to make a change on defense," Weatherbie said."
