#10; Warhawks Getting Defensive

Giving up more rushing yards per game in 2008 than any other year during the Charlie Weatherbie era, the ULM Warhawks are looking to get bigger and stronger on the defensive line.

The Warhawks have landed their tenth commitment of the 2009 class when Garland defensive lineman Kevin White gave his verbal pledge.

"Kevin committed to ULM last night", said Garland head coach Jeff Jordan.

The unique thing about Kevin is this is really only his first year to play football. Playing a little his freshman year, Kevin decided he wanted to try his luck on the basketball court. Coming out for football his senior season seems to have been a good choice as it has led to a scholarship at ULM.

ULM, in desperate need of size on the defensive line will get it with the 6'3 265 pound White. "Kevin started off inside for us but towards the end of the year we moved him to defensive end. That's what is great about Kevin you can move him around anywhere on the line. Kevin has the rare ability to play inside and the speed and power to play on the outside".

It seems Mr White made quite an impression in his district too as he was named to class 10-5A All Defensive 2nd team. Kevin finished 2008 with 45 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, forced and recovered a fumble.

"Kevin's biggest asset is his tremendous upside", said Jordan. Only playing 2 years of football, Kevin's best years of football are ahead of him. He got better and better as the year went on. He has a ton of potential".

The Warhawks have started quite a pipeline to Garland high school as Kevin makes the 2nd commitment from the Owls this year. He joins teammate Chad Brown on the defensive line. Current ULM Warhawk J.J. McCoy is the cousin of Kevin White and is also a graduate of Garland.

Look for highlights of Kevin and Chad in the near future along with other Garland prospects.
