Petal Athlete Commits On Visit

Petal high school wide receiver Tavarese Maye has verbally committed to the 2009 ULM recruiting class after his visit to the campus this past weekend.

The ULM Warhawks have hit the state of Mississippi hard this year and it has paid off for them again. 6'0 175 Tavarese Maye is the most recent commitment from the Magnolia State to give his verbal to the Warhawks.

"My experience was great from the moment I got to ULM until the minute I committed", said Maye. It felt like a home away from home, everything ULM had to offer was for me.

Tavarese was a big part of Petal Panthers offense in 2008, a season in which they captured the District 4-5A Championship with a 10-1 season record. Maye finished the year with 25 catches for 654 yards (26 YPC) and 9 touchdowns.

Troy Giddens was my host, we had a real good time, he was fun to hang out with. I met with some academic advisers and will probably look to gain a degree in Science". Tavarese sports a 3.2 GPA and scored a 21 on his ACT.

Alabama State, Northwestern State, South Alabama all offered scholarships with Arkansas State and Southern Mississippi showing late interest in Tavarese.

"I canceled my remaining visits, ULM is where I want to play football. I know ULM is losing 2 wide receivers this year and next year 3 so there is an opportunity to come in and earn some playing time".

Tavarese was named to the All District 4-5A first team as a wide receiver and to the All Hattiesburg All-Area First team as a receiver.
