O-Lineman Commits To Warhawks

Warhawk Nation received a call late last night and learned that the ULM Warhwaks have picked up commitment #23, an offensive lineman.

Nick Hawkins from Newman Smith high school in Texas has become the ULM Warhawks 23rd commitment for the 2009 recruiting class. Hawkins 6'4 265 committed to ULM shortly after his visit this weekend.

"My visit was put together real quick", said Nick Hawkins. My coach called me Thursday afternoon and told me ULM was here to see me. I came down and they wanted me to come on a visit so we set it up right there. I showed up this Friday, met my host Alvin Jordan, and we just hung out".

This was Hawkins first visit to the campus as a prospect, but not his first visiting ULM. "I have family in Minden, La and two of my cousins go to ULM. My aunt actually went to ULM back when they were Northeast Louisiana".

Hawkins moved from the defensive side his Junior season to the offensive side of the ball this year. "ULM said they really like the way I strike people coming off the snap, like I am still playing defense. We just had our football banquet tonight and I found out that I was named 1st team All District".

Hawkins said he was recently measured at 6'4 and 268 pounds, with a 365 bench press. Academic wise, Nick said he just got some good news as well. "I got all A's and B's on my last report card and that pushed me to being eligible on a sliding scale".

Hawkins was getting some serious looks from the likes of Fresno State, Southern Mississippi, and Montana before his grades slipped. "They all pretty much stopped calling me but it has worked out for the best now".

"Coach Weatherbie basically told me that ULM was looking for some aggressive lineman and that I needed to prepare myself when I get here, and that anybody can beat out anybody for a spot".

Nick is looking to gain a degree in ULM's business department.
