Warhawks Explode In 24-7 Victory

ULM Warhawks explode for 19 hits and blow by the Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks by the score of 24-7. ULM will face Mississippi Valley State at 1PM tomorrow. Don Williams will get the start for the Warhawks.

The ULM Warhawks scored 10 runs through the first 3 innings, exploded for 11 in the bottom of the 6th inning and defeated the Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks 24-7 tonight at Warhawk Field.

ULM (1-1) got 3 hits, one a grand slam and 5 RBI's from senior Ben Soignier, and a 4 RBI night from Freshman and local product Perry Smith (Neville). Junior Matt Laird scored 4 runs on 2 hits and drove in a run with his first triple of the season.

Senior Jon Prevost finished a perfect 3/3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Boomer Blanchard, Jordy Poche, Matt Collins, and Perry Smith all had 2 hits on the night.

Starting pitcher Daniel McHenry lasted 3 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits 6 runs (2 earned), walking 2 and striking out 1. Justin Anderson came in on relief of McHenry and closed the door on the Lumberjacks. Anderson threw 3 1/3 innings giving up only 3 hits and one run. He struck out one and walked one.

Devin Pourciau came in and threw a perfect 8th inning and Scott Stephen pitched the 9th striking out 2 Lumberjacks while giving up one hit.

Other local products that saw action include West Monroe catcher Chris Sinclair (walk) and Neville outfielder Will Hardy (strikeout).

Nick Wade and Boomer Blanchard were the unlucky, lucky Warhawks on the night picking up RBI's on hit by pitches. Lumberjack pitchers walked 11 Warhawks and hit 4 more while facing 56 batters.

ULM will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for a 1PM start. The Warhawks will send Junior College transfer Don Williams to the mound to face MSVU.
