Warhawks Take Game One 9-2 Over GSU

The ULM Warhawks improved to 4-1 on the season with a 9-2 victory over the Grambling State Tigers Friday night at Warhawk Field.

The ULM Warhawks used small ball and got a superb outing from Senior Keith Christensen in a 9-2 win Friday night over the Grambling Tigers.

ULM managed just 6 hits on the night but showed patience at the plate drawing 11 walks against the Tiger staff.

ULM got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second when first baseman Matt Collins singled and advanced all the way to 3rd on a stolen base and a wild pitch. Another wild pitch allowed Collins to score giving ULM a 1-0 lead.

The bottom of the 3rd would be the inning the Warhawks blew it open and did so with three hits and 3 walks. Six runs would score giving the Warhawks a 7-0 lead after 3 innings.

The big story of the night was the performance of ULM starter Keith Christensen. Making his second start of the season, Christensen threw 6 innings giving up only 4 hits and no runs. He struck out 3, walked 2, and lowered his ERA on the season to 1.63.

Don Williams would close out the final three innings and allow only one hit and 2 unearned runs. Williams walked one, struck out 2,and lowered his ERA from 9.82 to 5.40.

The ULM pitching staff is off to a great start to 2009 with a team ERA of just 2.72.

ULM and Grambling will continue the three game series tomorrow with a 1PM first pitch start time.
