ULM Drops 11-10 Contest To McNeese

On most nights a 16 hit, 10 run performance will get you a win but that was not the case Wednesday night as the McNeese State Cowboys were able to score one more than the Warhawks 11-10.

ULM starting pitcher Blake Jones was brilliant in his first start tossing 5 innings of 6 hit, one run ball. Jones struck out 2 Cowboys and walked one. For Blake (3.12 ERA) it was his 5th appearance of the season.

At the plate the Warhawks continued to swing hot bats collecting 16 hits and scoring 10 runs but in the end it would be the shaky bullpen that would be costly. ULM relief pitchers couldn't hold the Cowboys down as they erupted for four runs in the bottom in the 8th and again for four more in the bottom of the 10th.

ULM got two hits a piece from Boomer Blanchard, Jon Prevost, Ben Soignier, Matt Collins, and Nick Wade. Kelvin York collected three hits on the night for the Warhawks.

Catcher Ryan McMillan extended the game in the top of the ninth when he had a clutch 2 out 2 RBI single that scored Prevost and Soignier, tying the game up at 7.

ULM looked as if they would escape with a win after they posted a 3 spot in the top of the 10th and took a 10-7 lead into the bottom half of the inning.

In the bottom of the tenth McNeese was able to get the first two batters aboard via hit and walk. The Cowboys would get some help as two errors allowed two more base runners aboard that would eventually score the winning runs. Matt Fontenot singled home Lee Orr (4/4 3RBI) with the game winning hit.

ULM will return to action this weekend when they host the New Orleans Privateers for a three game Sun Belt conference series.
