Warhawks 5-4 Over Privateers

Game one hero's Ben Soignier and Nick Wade were at it again Sunday afternoon as both drove in 2 runs as ULM took game 2 from New Orleans 5-4.

Ben Soignier and Nick Wade both had 2 hits and 2 RBI's in a 5-4 ULM victory Sunday afternoon over the New Orleans Privateers.

It was New Orleans who was in control of the game early scoring a run in the 1st and another in the 4th to take a 2-0 lead. ULM would battle back and put a four spot on the board in the bottom of the 5th giving the Warhawks a 4-2 lead.

Nick Wade singled home Matt Laird (walked) and then advanced to 2nd when Jordy Poche singled to left scoring Kelvin York (doubled). After a failed bunt attempt by Boomer Blanchard and a fielders choice by Jon Prevost, Soignier singled through the left side scoring Wade and Prevost (stole 2nd).

The Privateers seemed poised for a big top of the sixth when they started the inning with 3 straight singles. One of the singles was costly as it hit the runner advancing to 3rd giving New Orleans first and 2nd and one out. New Orleans was able to push a run across on a single through the right side cutting the ULM lead to 4-3.

Drew Graham was called on to relieve ULM Starter Justin Anderson and proceeded to strike out back to back Privateers holding them to just one run on 4 hits in the inning.

ULM got that run back in the bottom half of the sixth when Wade singled home Matt Laird who had doubled with 2 outs in the inning.

New Orleans (5-10, 1-4) added a solo home run in the top of the 8th to cut the lead to 5-4 but went 1-2-3 in the top of the 9th as Derek Ward came on to get the save.

ULM (9-6, 2-3 Sun Belt) will go for the sweep as the two teams will start game 3 at 4:30PM this afternoon.
