Collins Walks Off; Warhawks Win 9-7

Just as the Warhawks looked as if they would let game 3 slip away to the ASU Red Wolves, Matt Collins stepped to the plate and belted a walk-off 2 run homer to give ULM the win and perhaps jump start the Warhawks.

The ULM Warhawks jumped out to a 7-1 lead but the bats went cold allowing the Red Wolves to claw their way back into the game and eventually tying it at 7 forcing extra innings. After losing in 11 innings the night before, Matt Collins made sure that would not happen today.

Collins stepped to the plate with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th and Ben Soignier on first base (walk). Matt got a 2-0 fastball and he delivered the big blow over the right center field fence and was then mobbed at home plate by his teammates as they celebrated a much needed victory.

Matt Laird also enjoyed a big day with three hits and 3 RBI's. Josh Gill, Jon Prevost, and Ben Soingier all collected 2 hits a piece for ULM and combined to drive in 4 runs and score 6.

ULM starter Jordy Poche got a no decision after going 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 5 runs. Poche walked 3 and struck out 4.

Blake Jones came on the final two innings, did not allow a run, and picked up the victory.

ULM will conclude it's home stand tomorrow with a rare contest against Harvard at 3PM.
