FAU's Gibson Pitches Owls To Victory

Florida Atlantic starting pitcher Mike Gibson was able to scatter 10 Warhawk hits and allow only 2 runs as the Owls took game one from ULM 5-4.

The road has not been kind to ULM and that trend continued Friday night as the Warhawks dropped game one to the Owls of Florida Atlantic 5-4.

ULM was able to register double digit hits on FAU starter Mike Gibson but could not turn those hits into runs. In fact ULM was able to keep the Owl bats quite, but one bad inning proved to the be the difference in the ball game.

ULM trailed 1-0 but put 2 runs on the board in the top of the 4th to take the lead. Third baseman Nick Wade ripped a double to right center field scoring Matt Laird and Ryan McMillan.

The Owls were able to load the bases in the bottom of the fourth with one out. Troy Bubley's sacrifice fly would plate one. William Block would follow that up with a double to left field that scored 2 more. Travis Ozga would cap the four run inning off with a single to center field scoring Block.

ULM would claw their way back into the game in the top of the 8th but could not get any closer. ULM starter Keith Christensen went 6.1 innings allowing 11 hits and 5 runs, all earned. He struck out 4 and walked 2.

Jon Prevost continued hit hot hitting with three more. Nick Wade finished with 2 hits 2 RBI's, and a run scored. McMillan was 2/2 on the night with 2 runs scored.
