Tulane, Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State, and now the Arkansas Razorbacks have fallen to Warhawks as ULM (22-12 11-7 Sun Belt) continues to build their resume up for an at large bid if they don't take the Sun Belt championship.
ULM starter Keith Christensen was brilliant on the mound holding the Hogs (24-9) to 2 runs on eight hits and tossed his first complete game of the season and the Warhawks third as a team. Keith walked 2, struck out four, threw 127 pitches, and lowered his ERA to 4.14
Offensively ULM had only six hits but two were home runs with the biggest being a solo shot by ULM 2nd baseman Boomer Blanchard in the top of the 8th that broke a 2-2 time. It was Boomer's 7th home run of the season and wound up being the game winner.
Sun Belt hitter of the week Perry Smith continued to stay hot hitting his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the third inning that tied the game at two a piece.
For the Hogs, they got all of their runs with one swing of the bat in the 2nd inning when Bo Bigham took Christensen deep and out to right center field. The two run homer gave Arkansas the lead back after ULM had taken a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning.
Matt Collins led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a Matt Laird single to center field. Jordy Poche then grounded into a double play but it allowed Collins to score plating the Warhawks first run.
Mike Bolsinger took the tough luck loss for the Hogs pitching 2 innings of work giving up the one hit to Blanchard that was the difference in the game.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow night to conclude the series. For ULM, the win tonight is the teams 2nd against a SEC opponent this season. The Warhawks defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 7-1 last week at Warhawk Field.
