South Alabama got eleven runs on nine hits in the first two innings of the game and held off the Warhawks late to take game one Friday night at Warhawk Field. ULM loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't push across a run.
The Warhawks left 13 runners on base and committed three more errors. ULM has committed 10 errors in their last three contest.
Despite giving up six runs in the top of the first, ULM fired back and put up a five spot in the bottom half of the inning. Back to back home runs by Jon Prevost and Ben Soignier got ULM on the board. Nick Wade then sent the 2-2 pitch over the left field wall for a three run homer cutting the lead to one.
South Alabama would come right back in the top of the second and put five more runs on the board on five hits. ULM could only respond with four runs the rest of the way but had their chances. The Warhawks loaded the bases twice (7th, 9th) but couldn't push any runs across.
ULM starting pitcher Justin Anderson had his shortest outing of the season lasting just one inning giving up 9 runs (8 earned) and seven hits. Justin walked none and struck out two.
Corey Brown came in and relieved Anderson and gave ULM a fighting chance. Brown threw 100 pitches over six innings of work allowing just three runs on nine hits. Brown struck out 4 and walked three.
With the loss ULM falls to 25-21 on the season and below .500 in SBC play at 12-13.
