Jaguars Take Series 11-9 Over Warhawks

For the second straight day one bad inning has been the difference in winning and losing for the ULM Warhawks. South Alabama struck for 7 runs in the top of the 2nd inning and hung on late for a 11-9 victory. USA takes the series sending the Warhawks to their 6th straight loss.

ULM (25-22,12-14 Sun Belt) had a furious comeback in the bottom of the ninth plating 5 runs to draw within two runs but ran out of outs and dropped their second consecutive Sun Belt Conference series at home to South Alabama.

Boomer Blanchard hit his 11th home run of the season and Nick Wade added his 7th in the loss. Jordy Poche got the start on the mound but suffered his shortest outing of the season lasting just 1.1 innings of work. Poche (2-5) faced 11 batters giving up 7 earned runs on six hits.

It looked promising for ULM as they scored three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning to take the early lead.

Neither team would score again until the bottom of the sixth when Nick Wade hit a solo shot to bring ULM to within three runs at 7-4.

Like the night before South Alabama was able to put some critical insurance runs on the board late that would come in handy in the end. Zach Grichor hit a clutch three run triple with two outs that pushed the lead back up to six. The Jaguars would add one more in the top of the ninth before the Warhawks rally fell short in the bottom half of the inning.

Drew Graham came on in relief of Poche and kept the USA bats at bay . The burley right hander struck out 7 over 6.1 innings allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits.

The two teams will finish up the series tomorrow with a 1PM first pitch contest.
